Description

The BSc Accounting and Finance degree programme is particularly appropriate for students planning to enter the accountancy profession and obtain a professional qualification after graduation. The course grants exemption from all foundation stage examinations of the UK professional accountancy bodies, subject to passing course modules at a given level. Further professional stage exemptions may also be granted.

Students will develop their critical and analytical abilities which will enable them to achieve competence in accounting and related skills. In addition to the accountancy profession, the BSc Accounting and Finance also provides an excellent foundation if you plan to follow a career in commerce, industry or financial services such as banking, fund management or insurance.

Course Content

This programme is particularly appropriate for students planning to enter the accountancy profession and obtain a professional qualification after graduation. The course grants exemption from the foundation stage examinations of the UK professional accountancy bodies, subject to passing course modules at a given level. be granted.

Year 1

You will study the following modules:

  • Introduction to Financial and Management Accounting: provides a foundation in the theory and practice of accounting and an introduction to the role, context and language of financial reporting and management accounting.
  • Introduction to Business: enables you to understand the context of an organisation and its environment.
  • Introduction to Organisational Behaviour: develops your understanding of the structure, functioning and performance of organisations.
  • Economics for Business: introduces the central concepts and methods of analysis used by economists in solving business problems.
  • Principles of Marketing: is concerned with the marketing function of an organisation. It seeks to develop awareness and understanding of marketing as an integrated business activity and focuses on the framework of theory which underpins an organisations responses to market demand.
  • Developing Business Skills: aims toencourage the development of key qualitative and quantitative skills used in business.

Year 2

You will study the following modules:

  • Financial Accounting: studies the
    theory and practice of financial accounting and reporting.
  • Management Accounting: develops concepts introduced in the first year.
  • Business and Company Law: provides an
    introduction to contract and company law.
  • Business Finance: examines financial issues from a business perspective by linking theoretical explanations of financial debates to real and applied business examples.
  • Developing Management Skills: building on the first year module Developing Business Skills, this module will extend your ability to work numbers and words in a management context as well as developing teamwork and personal development skills.

You will also be able to choose one further module from a defined list including a language module.

Year 3

You will study the following modules:

  • Advanced Financial Accounting: develops
    accounting skills and the ability to critically assess financial accounting principles.
  • Advanced Management Accounting: advanced topics in management accounting and performance management.
  • Audit and Accountability: aims to provide an introduction to the theory and practice of auditing. The emphasis is on the external audit of limited companies.
  • Personal and Corporate Taxation: studies the theory and practice of personal and corporate taxation within the UK. The module includes an examination of current legal and professional taxation requirements.
  • Advanced Finance: examines advanced topics in business finance.

One further module will be selected from within the School or from a widely defined list drawn from across the University.

Requirements

Candidates will be expected to have 3 A levels (see below for typical offer). Please note: We do not accept A level General Studies as one of these.

Candidates with equivalent qualifications to the A level requirement are encouraged to apply (eg International Baccalaureate; Access to Higher Education certificate). International candidates are also actively encouraged to access the University's International section of our website.

Students should also have 5 GCSEs at Grade C or equivalent including English and Mathematics (grade B).

A Levels: ABB excluding General Studies

International Baccalaureate: 32 with at least 5 in Standard Level Maths

Scottish Advanced Highers: ABB (acceptable on its own or in combination with other qualifications)

Students for whom English is a foreign language

Applications from students whose first language is not English are welcome. We require evidence of proficiency in English (including writing, speaking, listening and reading). Recognised English Language qualifications include:

  • IELTS: 6.5 overall (minimum 5.5 in all components)

  • TOEFL: Internet-based score of 92 overall (minimum 21 in the listening and writing components; 22 in the reading component; and 23 in the speaking component)

  • PTE: 62 overall (minimum 51 in all components)

Funding

Norwich Business School: UK/EU Student Scholarship Scheme

Norwich Business School is offering a scholarship to reward outstanding academic achievement to well-qualified and highly motivated students.

Scholarships will be awarded as a one-off payment to help you embark on your academic career. These awards are based on merit and you will be given a payment of £500 for each A grade achieved at A2 level. So, if you achieve AAA you will receive £1,500 from the Norwich Business School and £1,500 from the University of East Anglia.

Details of this scholarship:

  • All UK and EU students are eligible

  • A payment of £500 will be made for each A Grade (including A*) achieved at A2 Level.

  • All A level subjects are considered, except General Studies.

  • For the purposes of the Scholarship scheme, the Norwich Business School recognises the following grade equivalences: A at A level; 6 from Higher Level International Baccalaureate; A from Scottish Advanced Higher; Distinction from BTEC National Diploma.

  • The grades shown must be the most recent qualification.

  • Scholarships are available to any student studying on an undergraduate degree programmes in the Norwich Business School at the University of East Anglia, Norwich.

  • If a Scholarship is awarded, a payment of £500, £1000, or £1,500 (or higher in steps of a further £500 with each additional A grade over three A grade A2 Levels) will be made in the 1st year of study as a one-off payment.

    University Fees and Financial Support: International Students

    The University of East Anglia will be charging International students £11,700 for all full-time Norwich Business School undergraduate programmes which start in 2012.

    The University offers around £1 million of Scholarships each year to support International students in their studies. Scholarships are normally awarded to students on the basis of academic merit and are usually for the duration of the period of study.

    Norwich Business School Undergraduate Scholarships: All International undergraduate students who have applied to Norwich Business School will be eligible to be considered for a Scholarship on the basis of academic excellence. The value of the awards, which are available to those beginning the course in September 2012, will range from £500 - £2,000. Candidates do not need to complete a separate application form. Scholarships will be considered at the point of application.

    Scholarships will be shortlisted, by the admissions office, on confirmed applicants in September 2012 based on qualifications only.
