Thinking of becoming an accountant? Or looking to develop a strong background in finance and accounting as a way of gaining an edge in business? This course is about more than just numbers: it’s about the art of gaining insight into financial information. It’ll provide you with excellent prospects for a rewarding career.

To become a chartered accountant you’ll need to satisfy the requirements of professional accounting bodies. Our course is designed specifically with their requirements in mind, in order to maximise the number of exemptions from their exams. Currently the course has 42 individual exemptions across six of the world’s largest professional bodies. The exemptions mean you’ll be able to enter the job market having already undertaken a significant portion of your professional qualification.

The course is covered by the prestigious AACSB accreditation for Newcastle Business School, which was ‘Business School of the Year’ at the Times Higher Education Awards 2015. We’re also undergoing a full re-accreditation process with EPAS who require some of the highest levels of relevance, rigour and internationalisation.

Teaching methods include lectures, seminars and workshops. In some modules there is an emphasis on problem-based learning and developing technical skills in financial and accounting software.

Teaching is backed up by a well-designed support system in order to ensure a successful learning journey and the development of the necessary academic study skills. Extensive feedback, from both tutors and peers, is built into the course. For non-UK students there are optional sessions that will help with academic language and skills.

Assessments include exams that will enable you to gain exemptions, in some cases, from the exams set by professional bodies. Further assessment methods will include assignments, portfolios and a dissertation.
