Description
The B.S. in animal science leads to careers in livestock production and management or one of the many allied industries such as feed production, artificial insemination, and livestock or farm equipment support and sales. In addition, students can meet the requirements to attend graduate school or veterinary college.
Coursework includes computer and communications training, sales, and business management. Other required coursework is traditional to livestock degrees, but students have the option of taking courses specific to their interests. Options also exist for students who wish to pursue pre-veterinary studies.

Course Content
Key Features:- Apply the theory and skills learned in the classroom as you gain experience by working in the on-campus barns during labs with University-owned herds of beef cattle, swine, and sheep.
- Class field trips include visits to approximately 30 farms where tours and labs are conducted. These farms include large and small dairy farms, organic farms, robotic farms, various swine operations, and beef ranches and feedlots.
- Students develop and conduct original research with animal science faculty including reproductive management of livestock species and cost effective/nutritious feed alternatives for cattle.
Program outcomes - graduates will:

- demonstrate technology skills used for dairy/livestock management decision making and problem solving;

Requirements
Apply to University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC) as a freshman if you have earned or attempted fewer than 24 semester or 36 quarter college credits after high school graduation. All prospective students are encouraged to apply for admission. Students who have not been granted a standard high school diploma must pass the GED test before they are admitted as a regular student.

- Submit official college transcripts for all college credits attempted or earned
