Year 1

Via imaging, design, media studies and production studios, you will receive a comprehensive introduction to the theory and practice of animation and interactive media. You will cover areas of narrative development, as well as developing performance, visual and aural literacy.

Year 2

In semester 1 you will study 2D animation, 3D animation, interactive media and digital effects.

In semester 2 you'll engage in the studio model through electing to work on particular projects or briefs. You will also select electives from 2D animation, 3D animation, sound design, interactive media, video, experimental video, and alternative animation.

Year 3

In the final year the emphasis is on collaborative and conceptual development. You again engage with the studio model and choose another elective. In the final semester you will produce a major work of your own design. The final outcome will be an industry-ready folio showcasing your skills and abilities.

You must have successfully completed an Australian Year 12 (or equivalent senior secondary school qualification).

Prerequisites

Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 30 in English (EAL) or at least 25 in English other than EAL.

Selection tasks

Semester 2, 2017

Mid-year entry is available to applicants with advanced standing only.

Advanced standing applicants must have successfully completed the Advanced Diploma of Screen and Media with a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 (out of 4.0)

Selection tasks – If you do not meet the GPA requirement for guaranteed entry you will be invited to a folio presentation.

Semester 1, 2017

You must:

  • complete and submit the 2017 Animation and Interactive Media pre-selection kit by Friday 7 October.
    • VTAC applicants must register and submit the kit
    • RMIT internal applicants must complete the kit as part of their application
  • attend a folio presentation (short-listed applicants only). If you are required to attend you will be notified after 5pm Friday 18 November 2016.

You must attend as assigned between Monday 28 November and Friday 2 December 2016.

Advisory letters will be sent to applicants in mid-December.

Some applicants will be selected based on their pre-selection kit. These applicants are not required to attend a folio presentation but will instead be invited to an information session on Thursday 24 November.

Pre-selection kit requirements

The pre-selection kit requires an applicant statement of no more than 400 words outlining what interests you about animation and interactive media.

You’ll also be required to submit up to 12 printed images of your own work, (3D, 2D, photographs, graphics, drawings etc) that best showcase your creativity. Images must not exceed A4 size. 

Also complete a visual story telling task, told in a comic strip sequence, without words and text, based on one of the following themes:

  • Electric
  • Flattery
  • Stench
  • Straw.

In either nine or ten postcard-sized images, tell your story using any hand drawn graphic, collage or photographic means.

In images one to eight, develop your story, which then leads to an unexpected, amusing or surprise ending in the final images.
