With an MSc degree in Architectural Engineering, you can help influence the design of future buildings.

With Architectural Engineering, you can use your growing knowledge of engineering by optimizing and integrating it within the holistic design processes, which will define the future’s sustainable building architecture.

Study programme focus

The MSc programme in Architectural Engineering is linking your engineering skills to the design process through numerous cross-disciplinary project courses at high level in order to make you a specialist within the field of building design.

The programme offers as a supplement to the generic project courses a wide range of spezialisation courses in areas such as building technology energy, load-bearing structures, installations, indoor climate, fire safety, acoustics, lighting, project management, and building information modelling.

Specializations

The wide selection of technological specialsation courses at the programme gives the individual student the opportunity to make a very distinct and personal profile. Your fields of interests in engineering can most likely be combined with the design courses, in which you embed your engineering knowledge in your designs.

While it is very straightforward to make a study plan with a professional focus on Structural Design, Architectural Design or Energy Design, it is also possible to make study plans with other significant relevant profiles within Indoor Climate Design, Environmental Design or Design Management – by choosing your technological spezialisation from courses given by other (DTU)-departments than DTU Civil Engineering.

Career

The programme is designed to educate you to become an important member of any design-team blending engineers and other specialists, e.g. architects. You might be involved in the early stages of building projects — which is where the key decisions are made – and where your contribution will be to communicate, innovative and optimize.

To obtain the MSc degree in Architectural Engineering, the student must fulfil the following requirements:

  • Have passed General Competence Courses adding up to at least 30 points

  • Have passed Technological Specialization Courses adding up to at least 30 points

  • Have performed a Master Thesis of at least 30 points within the field of the general program

  • Have passed a sufficient number of Elective Courses to bring the total number of points of the entire study up to 120

Students with a Bachelor of Science degree (or equivalent), in natural science or technology, obtained at an internationally recognized university, are eligible for enrolment, if they comply with the following academic requirements.

General admission requirements

Only applicants holding either a Bachelor of Science in Engineering, a Bachelor in Engineering or a Bachelor of Natural Science degree can be admitted to a Master of Science in Engineering programme. From September 2017 the bachelor degree must be less than 10 years old.

The individual MSc Eng programme states in detail which bachelor programmes qualify and whether applicants have to complete supplementary educational activities.

Requirements for supplementary educational activities can equate to up to 30 ECTS credits and are specified in the form of a list of courses under the individual MSc Eng programmes.

The specific requirements must be met before graduating from the bachelor programme or in connection with conditional admission to a particular MSc Eng programme. The courses must be passed prior to the commencement of studies within one year from the conditional admission.

Supplementary educational activities in connection with conditional admission to an MSc Eng programme do not form part of the MSc Eng programme, and partial tuition fees are charged. If the supplementary courses have not been passed within the deadlines specified, the conditional admission to the programme is withdrawn.

The Master of Science in Engineering programmes are offered in English. Therefore applicants must demonstrate proficiency in English (B-level, IELTS, TOEFL- or Pearson test).
