In addition to providing a good grounding in core theory and practical training, this programme enables you to specialise in medical, industrial or environmental biotechnology with the opportunity to complete a research project within one of these areas.

The programme also has a major emphasis on the development of professional and research skills to give you an edge in the employment market after graduation.

Introduction
This new MSc programme aims to provide you with advanced level theoretical knowledge and understanding, and practical experience and training of biotechnology, with a particular focus on modern molecular and systems biology approaches.

You will then choose specialist modules in clinical biotechnology, industrial biotechnology or environment biotechnology, before undertaking a research project within one of these disciplines.

The programme also aims to provide you with training and support in developing a range of key professional skills, including communication, critical analysis and thinking, project and time management, report writing, teamwork, ethics, information technology and career management.

Research projects will be offered across a broad range of biotechnology topics.

How You Study
This programme focuses on the application of molecular and systems biology approaches in Biotechnology. Term 1 will feature an Introduction to Biotechnology and provide students with core theoretical and practical training in molecular and systems biology approaches used in modern biotechnology. Term 2 will provide specialisms in medical, industrial and environmental Biotechnology. Students will then progress to a research project within one of these disciplines. The programme will also have a major emphasis on the development of professional and research skills to enhance employability.

Your postgraduate experience will include a combination of lectures, practicals, IT classes, seminars and research projects.

How You Are Assessed
Assessment is conducted through examinations and coursework, including the preparation of a research dissertation for the research project.

Facilities
You will have access to a broach range of specialist facilities and equipment within the School, including dedicated laboratories and apparatus for microbiology, biomedical science, analytical chemistry, anatomy and physiology and conservation

Students will receive training and support to develop a range of professional and research skills, including communication, report writing, project and time management, information technology and career planning.

Scholarships

Students who already hold a University of Lincoln undergraduate degree may be eligible for a £1500 postgraduate taught course scholarship (deducted from tuition fee)
