Degree Programme in Chemistry at Hong Kong Baptist University offers a comprehensive and rigorous education in the foundational and advanced principles of chemistry. Designed to equip students with essential knowledge and practical skills, this programme prepares graduates for diverse career paths in scientific research, education, industry, and government sectors. Students will explore core areas such as organic, inorganic, physical, analytical, and biochemistry, gaining a thorough understanding of chemical theories and their real-world applications. The curriculum emphasizes laboratory proficiency, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities, enabling students to conduct experiments, analyze data, and innovate within the chemical sciences. Throughout their studies, students have access to state-of-the-art facilities and receive mentorship from experienced faculty members engaged in cutting-edge research. The programme also encourages experiential learning through industry attachments, internships, and collaborative projects, fostering professional development and networking opportunities. Graduates of the programme are well-prepared to pursue postgraduate studies or enter the workforce as competent chemists, researchers, or educators. The academic environment at Hong Kong Baptist University promotes active learning, innovation, and ethical scientific practice, ensuring students are not only technically skilled but also socially responsible. The Chemistry programme’s holistic approach aims to cultivate curious, analytical, and adaptable graduates who can contribute to scientific advancements and address societal challenges through chemistry.

We offer two study paths with different focuses leading towards a BSc (Hons) in Chemistry:

  • Chemistry - Environmental Studies Concentration
  • Chemistry - No (specific) Concentration

Students who are interested in environment-related chemical problems may choose to pursue the Environmental Studies Concentration. Others who wish to focus on Pure and Applied Chemistry may choose to pursue a study path with No specific concentration. In the first three years of study, the two groups of students will take similar core courses to build up their basic knowledge in various chemistry fields. In the final year, students in Environmental Studies Concentration will take environment-related interdisciplinary courses while students with No Concentration can choose a wide variety of advanced chemistry courses as their Major elective courses.
