A Master of Classical Studies will advance your career as a university teacher or administrator, professional research writer, senior public servant, museum curator, schoolteacher, journalist, librarian, or any profession involving the analysis of arguments, interpretation of texts, and writing skills.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion, students will have the skills and knowledge to:

1. Speak and write with considerable authority on the language, history, literature, art or other aspects of Ancient Greek and Roman culture under study;
2. Think critically, analytically and at an advanced level about problems and issues in Classical world studies;
3. Research at a high level and communicate the results at near-professional level; and
4. Read and understand basic texts in Latin and/or Ancient Greek.

The Master of Classical Studies requires completion of 96 units, which must consist of:

6 units from completion of CLAS6001 Traditional Grammar

A minimum of 12 units from completion of courses from the following list:

A minimum of 6 units from completion of courses from the following list:

A Bachelor degree or international equivalent with an average mark of at least 65 per cent

All applicants must meet the University's English Language Admission Requirements for Students

Applicants with a Bachelor Degree or Graduate Certificate in a cognate discipline may be eligible for 24 units (1 semester) of credit.

Applicants with a Graduate Diploma or Honours in a cognate discipline may be eligible for 48 units (1 year) of credit.
