The program has a strong focus on cutting-edge fields in Communications and Signal Processing and it gives excellent preparation for research and development positions in universities and international companies. Students study the fundamental concepts of information theory and coding, modulation technics, tensor-based signal processing, machine learning, data analytics, array signal processing, optimization technics and adaptive filters.
Every semester students do research. They do modeling and simulations on Python and Matlab. The topics of research emphasize the following applications: wireless systems, wireless channel modeling, antenna design and RF circuits, biomedical signal processing, brain computer interfaces, big data processing. Moreover, students learn to present their research results and are encouraged to present their results at leading international conferences.
2 semesters GRIAT students study in KAI, the third semester they study in a German partner university Technische Universität Ilmenau, the fourth semester students go back to Russia or may stay in Germany to finish writing their MSc thesis.
Master thesis defenses are supervised by Russian and German professors and defended in English to the joint committee from Russia and Germany.

GRIAT students can benefit from grants to study and train abroad. They can apply for a number of scholarships offered by the government of Tatarstan Republic, GRIAT industry partners and the European commission program for education and training. These scholarships mostly cover travel, stay, costs and medical insurance of GRIAT students during their academic semester at a German partner-university.
Recently, all of GRIAT students have used an opportunity to study abroad thanks to different international grants and programs:
- Algarysh grant provided by the Government of the Republic of Tatarstan;
- European international exchange program Erasmus+;
- SIEMENS scholarship;
- Russian educational grant program;
- Scholarship provided by the President of Tatarstan.
