Educational organisation

The programme is organised in modules, with an overall workload of 120 ECTS credit points. A module usually consists of several courses. At least one module (eight ECTS) has to be completed in each of the four main areas ("Software Technology and Information Systems", "Models and Algorithms", "Embedded Systems and System Software" and "Human-Machine Interaction"). From these, an area of specialisation is chosen in which the student has to complete two additional modules. Twelve credit points have to be earned either in a minor subject or in general studies, with a choice of courses from a variety of fields. International (non-German-speaking) students are required to take a German language course as part of their general studies.

A main element of the Master's programme is the student project group. Here, teams of about eight to sixteen students work together on a research-related project for one year. The final part of the programme is the preparation and writing of the Master's thesis, which usually takes place during the last semester.

Part-time students have to reach up to 18 credits per semester.
