The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) is a research degree available in all study areas and provides you with the skills to become an effective researcher in your previously studied discipline. By undertaking a Doctor of Philosophy you will have expansive intellectual freedom to be able to make an original and substantial contribution to your area of study.

You can start your PhD at any time during the year. To start your PhD you need to clarify your research topic and seek an academic staff member to be your supervisor. This can sometimes take time so it is wise to allow several months for discussion with potential supervisors and for consideration of your application.

- Students who wish to undertake research full-time in Mathematics, Arts, Business, Education or Nursing should enrol in RES9502 Doctor of Philosophy Studies Full-Time Maths, Arts, Business, Educ or Nursing
- Students who wish to undertake research full-time in Biology, Engineering, Physics or Psychology should enrol in RES9503 Doctor of Philosophy Studies Full-Time Biology, Engine'g, Physics or Psychology
- Students who wish to undertake research part-time in Mathematics, Arts, Business, Education or Nursing should enrol in RES9500 Doctor of Philosophy Studies Part-Time Maths, Arts, Business, Educ or Nursing
- Students who wish to undertake research part-time in Biology, Engineering, Physics or Psychology should enrol in RES9501 Doctor of Philosophy Studies Part-Time Biology, Engine'g, Physics or Psychology.

Entry requirements
Bachelor degree with First Class Honours or Second Class Honours (Division A) or equivalent, or a Masters degree (with research component) or other qualifications equivalent to First Class Honours, together with evidence of professional standing.
Normally all students will be enrolled as provisional candidates, with their status being reviewed within 12 months full-time or 24 months part-time enrolment.
English Language Requirements
Domestic and international students from a non-English speaking background are required to satisfy English Language requirements. This program requires a minimum of IELTS 6.5 or equivalent.
If you do not meet the English language requirements you may apply to study a University-approved English language program.
