While New Jersey certification is not required for entry into the program, many students are already certified and employed in New Jersey secondary or postsecondary schools. Students who are seeking New Jersey teacher certification should explore the Certification Program in Mathematics Education.

The program focuses on basic problems in the learning and teaching of mathematics, techniques and strategies for studying childrens mathematical thinking, and the uses of technology in mathematics teaching as well as on mathematics itself. Students in the program have opportunities to engage in independent study, small-group work, and traditional whole-group class sessions. Students are also involved in the ongoing research and professional development activities of the faculty and doctoral students in mathematics education.
