The M.Sc. in Financial Analysis and Fund Management is a very challenging programme that offers students the opportunity to study for the level I and level II CFA® exams at the same time as the M.Sc. Financial Analysis and Fund Management.

The M.Sc. in Financial Analysis and Fund Management is one of a limited number of programmes globally which has been awarded Programme Partner Status by the CFA® institute, this means that the programme covers at least 70% of the CFA® level I and II syllabus.

Run by the Xfi Centre for Finance and Investment, it is a twelve month full-time programme, and is designed for those wishing to learn fundamental and advanced theory in investment analysis.

Students on this programme will have access to a dedicated Thomson Reuters lab and in addition to Datastream and other financial databases and software systems.

All of the following are included in the fees for this programme;

CFA® Track
The M.Sc. in Financial Analysis and Fund Management with CFA® Track enables you to take Levels I and II of the Chartered Financial Analyst qualification, while also continuing to study Financial Analysis and Fund Management. We provide extensive additional training for the CFA® level I and II professional examinations in December and June.

CFA® Program Partner
The Xfi Centre for Finance and Investment at the University of Exeter is an approved Program Partner of the CFA® Institute.

The status of CFA Program Partner is reflective of that fact that the MSc Financial Analysis and Fund Management offers a curriculum that covers at least 70 per cent of the Candidate Body of Knowledge, CFA Institute ethical and professional standards, and other requirements. This signals to potential students, employers, and the marketplace that the University curriculum is closely tied to professional practice and is well-suited to preparing students to sit for CFA examinations.

The CFA Program sets a standard for developing the skills, standards, competence, and integrity of financial analysts, portfolio managers, investment advisers, and other investment professionals worldwide. It is widely considered the investment profession's most rigorous programme.

The benefits to the Xfi Centre for Finance and Investment students are wide-ranging. They include access to CFA Institute textbooks, journals, webcasts, and other educational resources, as well as access to professional development events held in conjunction with CFA Institute member societies, the local membership bodies for CFA Institute candidates, charterholders and members.

M.Sc. Only Track
With the M.Sc. Only Track, you are not required to register for the CFA® exams, or attend the workshops organised for those on the CFA® Track.

Programme structure
This programme is a 12 months full-time programme, studied over three terms. It is based at the Exeter campus of the University throughout this time.

The programme begins with a three week full-time, compulsory, induction and foundation course. The induction includes an introduction to several of the subject areas covered in the programme, in particular accounting. It also includes a week of preparation for the CFA® exams, delivered by a dedicated CFA® trainer.

The taught components of the programme are delivered in the first two terms, with the third term, and most of the summer, spent researching and writing a dissertation.

During the first two terms, we also provide four weekend sessions delivered by CFA® trainers. The purpose of which is to provided specific help and training for students sitting the CFA® exams.

The programme in its entirety, including the mandatory foundation course, runs from September to September.

During the programme you will study modules (including the dissertation) totalling 180 credits. Please note that modules are subject to change. To ensure a high level of coverage of the CFA® syllabus all of the modules on this programme are compulsory.

CFA® examinations
The CFA Track* curriculum is designed to reflect a Body of Knowledge that keeps pace with the ever-changing dynamics of the global investment community. This Body of Knowledge, developed through an extensive survey of practicing CFA charterholders, consists of 10 general topic areas that are shown in the list below and provides a framework for making investment decisions.

Level I examination
The Level I curriculum and examination focus on tools and concepts that apply to investment valuation and portfolio management. Level I also includes an overview of the processes of asset valuation and portfolio management. Candidates are expected to display a working knowledge of:

* financial statement analysis;
* macro- and micro-economics;
* quantitative methods of investment analysis and management;
* financial markets and instruments;
* corporate finance.

The Level I curriculum also emphasises basic concepts regarding securities laws and regulations and the CFA Institute Code of Ethics and Standards of Professional Conduct.

Level II examination
The Level II curriculum and examination focus on asset valuation. Candidates must apply the tools and concepts emphasised at Level I in analysing and valuing investments, and should have a thorough understanding of industry and company analysis. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to:

* analyse specific equity and fixed-income securities and other investments;
* estimate expected investment return and risk;
* compare alternative investment choices and make investment recommendations;
* apply the CFA® Institute Code of Ethics and Standards of Professional Conduct in practical situations.

CFA® examination preparation support
As part of the CFA track of our MSc Financial Management and Fund Management programme, Clearly Training, professional CFA trainers, will deliver optional full examination preparation weekends. One preparation weekend is held in November leading to the Level I exams, and further weekends are in February and May leading to the Level II exams.

About the award

The Business School will award £3000 to University of Exeter students who have achieved a First Class degree in order to assist them to study for an MSc programme at The Business School.

All scholarships awards are conditional on payment of the tuition deposit as specified in your offer letter and registration with the University of Exeter.

Scholarships are not awarded in conjunction with other any scholarship in the event of you being eligible for more than one award the greater award will be given.
