The Academy of Fine Arts is situated close to the riverside of Umeälven. Totally, BFA- and MFA-level, there are 75 students at the school.
The Master program provides advanced and specialised experience and skills in artistic work, theory and techniques with a focus on individual investigative art work. Students train their ability to critically analyse cultural ideas and contexts in which they exist. They also train to debate and write about art. Around 60 % of the study year is individual artistic work, the rest is courses, workshops, seminars, lectures and projects. Each student has a studio and two professors/tutors. The well equipped workshops in wood, plaster, metal, bronz, graphic, photo, video and computer based art work, are open to all the students. The Professors and tutors are mainly international Artists.

Instruction The Program includes project work (individually and in groups), tutorials (individually and in groups), lectures, seminars, courses, field studies. Courses in Art work, theory and techniques as well as workshops are offered from an extensive course catalogue. The students are required to make their own study plans in consultation with their professor.
