The MSc in the Foundations of Clinical Psychology offers a curriculum in which the central aim is to provide an educational experience which sets the profession of Clinical Psychology into a European and International context. Home students will have an appreciation of international professional issues and international students will gain an understanding of how to apply the principles of clinical psychology to developing service provision in their home countries, as well as gaining an understanding of service provision within the UK. The programme will serve as an academic stepping stone to completion of a PhD in Psychology and will supplement students experience for application to professional training offered by Doctoral Programmes in Clinical Psychology.

Taught modules extend over both academic semesters.

Year 1
The following are core modules:

Fundamentals of Clinical Psychology explores the classification of mental illness, theoretical models underpinning various psychological therapies and cross-cultural consideration.

Fundamentals of Therapeutic skills covers the basic skills on which effective therapeutic interventions are based, exploring the needs of clients from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds.

Introduction to CBT for Anxiety and Depression' provides an introduction to CBT assessment, formulation and practice, considering ethical, professional and cross-cultural issues.

'Leadership and Management' provides an introduction to leadership and management, service development, management of change and team work, making reference to psychological frameworks and cultural issues.

Research Dissertation' aims to enable the student to produce a 10 000 word research project, addressing a contemporary issue in Clinical Psychology. The following research modules equip students with the skills to conduct their research project:

* RESM 6002 Research design'
* RESM 6003 Qualitative research methods 1'
* RESM 6004 Quantitative research methods 1'
