All courses start on Monday 5th October 2015.

Course structure

The course is modular - each student takes a combination of core and elective modules. 10 modules are studied and assessed in total. Modules consist of nominally 40 hours directed tuition in the form of lectures, seminars, group work, presentations, case studies and e-learning. This is covered in a full-immersion, intensive week.
The taught modules account for 50% of the Master's degree. A major individual research project, submitted in the form of a dissertation accounts for the other 50%.

Modules

Between 7 and 9 core modules are specified for each of the MSc courses and these modules are compulsory. The core modules for each course are listed on the relevant course pages.

In addition to the core modules you can choose additional elective modules from an extensive list to make up to 10 modules for the course. There are a range of elective modules available, focussed on management, business, technology and other subject areas. And so you can choose your elective modules to tailor the degree to your interest and to support your future career aspirations.

Assessment

The course is assessed through Post Module Assignments and a major research project.

Post Module Assignments (PMA)

At the end of every module you will be given a post module assignment (PMA). This is a piece of assessed, written work which enables you to delve more deeply into the subject area of the module. It should take you 40-60 hours to complete and the submission deadline is four weeks after the end of the module.

Project and Dissertation

Throughout the year, alongside your modules and PMA’s, you will undertake a major individual research project which you then submit in the form of a dissertation at the end of August, followed by an oral exam where your Project Supervisor and an independent supervisor will discuss your project with you.

You do not need to choose your project in advance. At the beginning of your MSc course, you will be provided with a wide range of project titles which you can choose from. Many projects relate closely to research developments in industry or research at WMG.

The project accounts for 50% of MSc grade and through choosing a project suited to your interest and future career aspirations, this another great way to tailor your degree.
