Course Content

This three- year degree comprises of compulsory modules to give you core knowledge in business and management studies alongside those concerning language, translation, the rapid development of communication and media. You will explore materials from a linguistic, cultural and cross-cultural perspective. There is also range of optional modules in years 2 and 3 so you can tailor your studies to you own interests. The Course Profile tab lists all the compulsory and optional modules currently available for each year of your study.

Year 1In the first year you will take the compulsory modules ‘Introduction to Business’, ‘Developing Business Skills’ and ‘Introduction to Organisational Behaviour’. You will also take ‘Introduction to Language and Communication Studies’ and ‘Media, Society and Power’. These are complemented by a choice from three optional modules.

Year 2 In year 2 you will take two compulsory modules in business management ‘Principles of Marketing’ and ‘Human Resource Management’. These are complemented by a choice of three optional modules relating to cross-cultural communication and discourse. These include ‘Translation Work Experience’ which provides you with the opportunity to experience professional translation first-hand and ‘Intercultural Communication in Practice’ which explores how you can become a more effective communicator in an international or multicultural setting. You can also choose to take one module of a subsidiary language or an additional module from a wide range of options.

Year 3 In year 3 you will take one compulsory module in business management – ‘Strategic Management’ and select from a number of additional business related modules, including ‘Business Ethics’, ‘Legal Issues in Business’, and ‘Behavioural Aspects of Marketing’. These options are complemented by a combination of cultural and communication modules.
