International Civil and Commercial Law

Globalisation and increasing international trade have resulted in the rapid internationalisation of civil and commercial law practice. This Master of Laws Advanced Studies programme has been designed with these developments in mind and aims to prepare graduates for careers in this constantly evolving environment. The focus of the programme is the deepening and widening of knowledge in the field of civil and commercial law in an international context. Transnational sources of hard law and soft law are addressed, as is relevant case law. Full consideration is also given to the comparative side of international civil and commercial law in both theory and practice, in particular the differences between common law and civil law and between certain domestic legal systems. International civil and commercial law is a complex and multi layered area, in that different levels of international, EU and national laws co-exist and interact with one another. The programme therefore equips graduates with the skills to fully understand these intertwined layers and apply their knowledge to domain-specific problems in legal practice.
