The programme provides a broad based analysis of tourism management and development issues with a specialisation on the principal issues associated with sustainability in tourism. The challenge of measures to adapt to or mitigate the impact and effects of climate change are a core element of the programme alongside the broader assessment of the environmental, economic, social and cultural dimensions of tourism and sustainability.

The programme draws upon state of the art academic and practitioner knowledge in the field supported by specialist research perspectives from staff at both institutions.

The programme engages with the critical issues facing global tourism in the twenty first century and strategies to address the pressing problems which tourism activity and development poses to host communities.

A semester is spent in each institution where you will gain a range of perspectives and knowledge that can be applied to address problems arising in the field of sustainability.

Completion of the course will assist in seeking employment in this expanding area.

Course Structure
You will take 6 core modules and a dissertation of around 15,000 words. Semester 1 is spent in London and Semester 2 in Kalmar, Sweden.

Semester 1:

* Principles of Tourism Management
* Theory and Practice in Tourism and Development
* Research Methods in Tourism

Semester 2:

* Climate Change and Tourism
* Managing and Marketing Sustainable Tourism Destinations
* Contemporary Issues in Sustainable tourism

Optional modules include:

* Sustainable events management

Assessment
You are assessed via essays, individual and group research projects, in-class tests, examinations and a final dissertation.

Normally a good Honours degree in a relevant subject. Those with relevant professional qualifications or extensive professional experience will also be considered.
