Since its foundation in 1994, the HNU has developed into an indispensable educational institution in the Neu-Ulm/Ulm region. More than 3,900 students are now completing their studies at our three faculties of Health Management, Informationmanagement and Economincs as well as at the Center for Postgraduate Studies.

Perfect mix of practice and theory

Our success is based on close cooperation with the regional economy. Professors from practice, practical projects through cooperation with the economy, joint studies and dual study programmes are the main focus of the university.

... is leading for and within HNU - in the cooperation with sponsors and supporters from the economy and public institutions as well as within the staff. More and more international partnerships with other universities are emerging on all continents and every year we welcome more foreign students to HNU.

1994

Prof. Dr. Gerhard Hack is founding dean: After the bureaucratic and organizational hurdles for a university of applied sciences in Neu-Ulm have been overcome, the reconstruction of the former US school in Neu-Ulm's Steubenstraße will begin in June.

1995

Cross-border cooperation: First joint course of study "Industrial Engineering and Management" of the universities of Ulm and Neu-Ulm starts. Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences strives for independence.

1998

After a long struggle: Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences is becoming independent. Among others, Federal Minister of Finance Dr. Theo Waigel, Member of the State Parliament Peter Schmid, District Administrator Erich Josef Geßner and Neu-Ulm's Lord Mayor Dr. Beate Merk are present at the ceremony.

1999

Founding Dean Prof. Dr. Gerhard Hack is elected President by the Senate. More than 1000 students are enrolled at the University of Applied Sciences.

2000

In July 2000 Dr. Peter Hurtler founded the Center for Continuing Education. The Alumni Club is also founded this year. Together with the University of Applied Sciences Ulm, the University of Applied Sciences New Ulm offers the course of studies "Business Informatics".

2006

Prof. Dr. Uta M. Feser takes office as President. Farewell to Prof. Dr. Gerhard Hack. Laying of the foundation stone and start of construction work for the new building in the Wiley quarter.

2008

HNU in moving boxes. In mid-August we will pack and move to the new building at Wiley. On August 25th it will be officially inaugurated in a ceremony with the Minister President Dr. Günther Beckstein. In October, HNU celebrates its ten-year independence with a festival week.

2010

Operations at the Vöhlinschloss University Centre(opens in a new window) (cooperation between the universities of Neu-Ulm, Augsburg and Kempten) start. Library takes first place among the Bavarian university libraries.

2014

On 5 May, the land for the HNU's extension building is purchased by the Free State of Neu-Ulm. Construction planning begins. Audit "Internationalization of the university". Neu-Ulm University celebrates its 20th anniversary in October.

2017

Topping-out ceremony for the new building on 6 February: "The lighthouse project creates optimal conditions for learning, teaching and living", emphasised the Bavarian Minister of State for European Affairs and Regional Relations, Dr. Beate Merk, in her speech. HNU is convincing in the federal "Innovative University" competition: the universities of Biberach, Neu-Ulm, Ulm and the University of Ulm will receive around 15 million euros for their joint "InnoSüd" project. The goal is to expand the transfer of knowledge and technology in the Danube-Iller-Riss region.

The HNU Library provides access to an extensive collection of analogue and digital specialist media.

Mensa

Vegetarian or not. Warm or cold? Or just a cup of coffee - in the mensa in building A and the cafeteria in building B you will find a big selection of food and drinks.

HNU is...

healthy

As a health-conscious university, the HNU cooperates with the University of Ulm to enable students to participate in university sports. Health days are also held regularly at the HNU.

fam­ily-friendly

It is not always easy to reconcile study or work with leisure, family and friends. In order to support students and staff, HNU has taken numerous measures, set up services and has been awarded the certificate "family-friendly university" since 2008.
