This programme is designed familiarise students with the major achievemnets and ramifications of the Italian language and culture through a firm grounding in linguistics, literature and cultural history. They are also supposed to acquire a profound knowledge of the culture, history and political system. Areas of knowledge covered throughout the four-semester programme include the following: the grammatical sytem of the Italian language, peculiar characteristics of written and oral communication the substantial components of Italian and Italian-speaking literatures and cultures, current research methods and trends in literature, linguistics and culture that help formulate successful research projects and strategies. A special stress is put on the effort to assist students in developing skills necessary for self-study, life-long learning and self-management. The programme consists of two specialisations: Linguistics and literature and cultural history.
