Description

  • Is Landscape Architecture for you
If you have a concern for the environment, interest in biological science, art, architecture, horticulture or public service, landscape architecture could be for you! Students interested in landscape architecture would benefit from art, natural science, computer drafting, and/or college prep courses in high school, and summer work in a landscape-related field is especially beneficial, though not mandatory. Landscape architects and designers create outdoor environments where people live, work, and play. Design activities range from residential homes, to commercial properties, to community facilities, to regional landscapes.
  • Landscape Architecture Major
All majors within the college of Agriculture and Biological Sciences have a required general core curriculum. The landscape architecture curriculum focuses on the major design and technical areas of the profession, such as drawing, drafting, and graphic presentation. Students can focus individual interests through supplemental technical courses in horticulture, art, engineering, biology, and others. Many students chose to add second majors or minors or even continue onto graduate coursework, depending on their particular goals and interests. Computer technology is highly integrated into the major, and all students are expected to purchase laptops and become proficient in computer applications.
Career Opportunities
Landscape architecture graduates work in a wide variety of job fields, including design, sales, and golf course construction. Many work as installation supervisors in landscape nurseries and garden centers or as designers and planner for government agencies and private consulting firms. Using summer jobs and internships as on-hands educational opportunities greatly enhances career opportunities.
