The Bachelor of Laws / Bachelor of Arts offers students a path dedicated to commercial law with focus on intellectual property law. As the sole real double degree in Victoria for this particular specialisation, students learn about trade marks, patents and designs, copyright, the prohibition of misleading or deceptive conduct and competition law. The course also provides a general comprehension of contemporary social and cultural developments. Students choose from a range of Arts Teams, allowing specialisation at a streak of study are as based on their own field of interest. Students complete law-related expert experience placements in businesses in Australia or overseas and are introduced into the technical aspects of legal training during moot court scenarios and advocacy exercises. The combo of degrees equips students with the skills to work in commercial and general legal practice, in government, and in arts- and - humanities-based organisations.
The Bachelor of Laws Suits the academic requirements for admission to practice as an Attorney in the Victorian and Australian Federal legal systems According to the Victorian Legal Admissions Board. Please be advised that non-academic requirements must also be satisfied for entry to practice and that no law degree enables graduates to practise direct a way. Depending on the option of Arts major, graduates may be eligible to submit an application for membership of relevant professional societies.
- Year 12 or equivalent
- VCE prerequisites: Units 3 and 4: the absolute minimum study score of 25 in English (or equivalent) or 30 in English (EAL). Added performance criteria and prerequisite requirements can also apply. English language requirements - satisfactory completion of a few of these following: Swinburne's English for Academic Purposes (EAP 5 high level level) with overall 70%, all skills 65 percent
- Minimum IELTS overall band of 6.5 (Academic Module) with no individual band below 6.0
- TOEFL iBT (internet-based) minimum score of 79 with a reading band no less than 18 and writing band no less than 20
- Pearson (PTE) minimum score of 58 (no real skills significantly less than 50)
- Any equal assessment of English language proficiency. Notice: A necessity for all classes, the Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic) can currently be done on campus at Hawthorn.
