This programme is provided jointly by IDPM and the School of Mechanical, Aerospace, and Civil Engineering (MACE), with additional contributions from Manchester Business School.

Its aims are to provide participants with:

* analytical capacities
* knowledge and skills necessary to propose, plan, implement, manage and evaluate development projects
* enhanced skills and knowledge in specialist functional areas such as infrastructure and social and economic development
* an appreciation of the role of research in proposing, managing and evaluating projects
* specific people management skills including groupwork, negotiation, conflict management and political skills

The programme is intended for professionals and managers working in the field of programme and project management who may be involved with project design, monitoring and evaluation in the context of low income economies. This would typically include engineers, sociologists, project managers of international or bilateral aid projects, NGO practitioners and policy makers of key ministries.

The programme incorporates a field study, usually to Cyprus, which offers an opportunity to apply conceptual understanding and techniques to organisations and issues in a society undergoing rapid cultural, political and economic change.

Special features An overseas field visit is an integral part of the programme. The cost of the visit is included in the programme fee. In addition, participants may undertake research visits to organisations applying information systems in practice in the UK. Fieldcourses may be scheduled at any point during the twelve-month period of the degree programme and this may include during University vacations. Successful applicants are expected to be available to attend

Module details

Students will study four compulsory core modules and four optional modules in two semesters of intensive coursework. The choice of options from a range of topics and perspectives enables participants to focus sharply on their particular areas of specialisation.

In addition, candidates complete a 12-15,000-word dissertation, which offers wide scope for individual focus.

Availability of course units may vary from year to year.

Academic entry qualification overview: Applicants should have a good first degree (minimum 2:1 or equivalent), and three years' work experience in a relevant area. Applicants without a degree may still be considered if they have 8-10 years' work experience in a managerial or senior technical position.English language: Applicants whose first language is not English should meet the following language requirements: * an IELTS Test score of 7 or more overall * or a TOEFL Test (Paper-based) score of 600 or more with a minimum score in Test of Written English of 4.5 * or a TOEFL Test (Computer-based) score of 250 or more with a minimum essay rating of 4.5 * or a TOEFL Test (Internet based) score of 88 or more with a minimum writing score of 22 * an NCUK PMP EAP Grade B Applicants whose language of academic instruction for at least 1 year has been English may be exempted from this requirement, at the discretion of the Institute.
