This qualification applies to people in marine industry seeking a Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) certificate of proficiency at the capacity of:chief scientist on boats with an inboard engine using propulsion power <750 kW within the exclusive economic zone (EEZ) orsecond engineer on boats with an inboard engine using propulsion power <1500 kW within the EEZ orchief or next engineer on boats with an outboard engine with unlimited propulsion power within the EEZ orassistant under direct supervision of a chief engineer orworker within a engine part of a boat <80 m long having propulsion power <3000 kW.Licensing/Regulatory InformationThis qualification is required to get an AMSA certificate being a Marine Engine Driver Grade 2 surrounding Coastal NC as defined in the National Standard for Commercial Vessels (NSCV) Part D. AMSA certificate will demand:achieving MAR30818 Certificate III in Maritime Operations (Marine Engine Driver Grade 2 NC sea-service consisting of:180 days qualifying sea services and also a completed AMSA approved task novel or 360 days qualifying sea serviceor 120 days qualifying sea services and also a completed AMSA approved task book, while still holding a Coxswain 1 (Cox 1), Coxswain 2 endorsed to get 500 kW inboard propulsion (Cox 2 500 kW), or Marine Engine Driver Grade 3 (MED 3) or even 240 days qualifying sea service whilst holding a Cox 1, Cox 2 500 kW or even MED 3or 3 months qualifying sea services and also a completed AMSA approved task book when holding a workshop skill equal eligibility or 180 days qualifying sea service whilst holding a marathon skill equal qualificationmeeting both vision and medical requirements specified at the NSCV Part D andassessment with an AMSA approved assessor working with the AMSA mandated practical assessment (AMPA).
