Description
The Medical and Pharmacological Sciences course has a translational scientific ethos designed to provide the skills and knowledge necessary to take a drug from development through to the patient; providing a combined understanding of both the diagnostic techniques utilised in the laboratory and the mechanistic functioning of whole body and cellular systems. The course will give you a sound foundation in several areas of biology that support an understanding of pharmacology.

- an extensive suite of analytical and biological laboratories staffed by experienced technicians. These include using state-of-the-art techniques such as
- flow cytometry, mass spectrometry, high performance liquid chromatography, confocal microscopy, in vitro pharmalogical techniques, and several computer- simulated practical experiments;
- hands-on experience of a wide range of techniques such as drug screening, toxicity testing and molecular biology;
- guest speakers in areas such as pharmacogenomics, neuropharmacology, pharmacovigilance and drug transport and drug development;
- graduates of this course can expect to earn a starting salary of £20-25k*

Course Content
The first year lays the foundation for the study of Medical and Pharmacological Sciences. You will develop key study and research skills through topics including; physiology, microbiology, cell biology, molecular biology and pharmacology.
In the second year you will further develop your study skills and research expertise and will begin to specialise in pharmacology and related areas such as physiology, biochemistry, immunology and genetics.
The final year of your course gives you the opportunity to carry out an independent research project in an area of pharmacology as well as in depth study of advanced pharmacology and drug development, cancer biology, chemotherapy and genetics.
Your course will be based on a series of lectures, with associated seminars, workshops, practical classes and personal tutorials - as well as problem based learning.

Merit Scholarship SchemeMerit Scholarship scheme: £1,000, in year one only and based on academic performance.
- Available to all international students applying for full-time undergraduate and postgraduate programmes at Coventry University.
