Middle Eastern Studies

The Middle Eastern Studies program at Rutgers University-Camden offers students a comprehensive and interdisciplinary exploration of the diverse cultures, histories, languages, and political dynamics of the Middle East. Course Content

Core Middle Eastern Studies courses:
1. Introduction to the Modern Middle East
2. Historical Survey - One of the following three courses:

• Islamic Civilization
• History of the Modern Middle East
• The Ottoman Empire

3. Senior Seminar - Senior Seminars in Middle Eastern Studies are offered every semester and focus on a particular topic, such as The United Nations and the Middle East; Women’s Movements in the Middle East; and The Middle East in Western Popular Culture and Mass Media.
Middle Eastern Language - Students can choose to study any of the following Middle Eastern languages:

• Arabic
• Hebrew
• Persian
• Turkish
