The MCO is based on the links between language, communication and organisation. It enables you to work strategically with language and internal communication in relation to the goals, structure and values of global organisations.

The workforce in multicultural organisations includes employees of varied backgrounds, cultures and professions. At the same time the different cultures and identities are continuously produced and reproduced through interaction. In the MCO programme you will learn to handle the identities, differences and cultural challenges found in multicultural organsations. Theories include organisational culture, identity and network theory, organisational actors (such as stakeholders, groups, subcultures), and organisational change all from an intercultural perspective.

Change and conflict communication
You will gain a profound understanding of the way decisions, results and procedures are shaped and communicated in organisations and work groups; as well as a profound understanding of the role of power, influence, motivation and interpersonal relations - all sustained by communication. Based on major theories of organisational communication you will learn how to develop and implement change and communication strategies with focus on intercultural issues.

You will develop the ability to analyse conflict and solution potential and to conduct successful communication, negotiation and mediation between employees in the multicultural and dispersed organisation. You will work with theories on argumentation, impression management, negotiation, decision, and intercultural conflict handling. Your skills in conflict handling and communication are trained through negotiation cases and simulations. You will also learn to translate theoretical and analytical insights into practical problem solving and recommendations to management.

Knowledge exchange
Knowledge is essential to the development and performance of organisations. It is created and organised through the flow of information and communication both formal and informal. Knowledge is influenced by interpersonal factors such as the role of trust and power and not least the technological tools available. Due to different cultural, organisational, and communicative barriers within and between organisations, the knowledge is often dispersed and not exploited to its fullest potential.

You will get both a historical perspective on the knowledge-intensive organisation and an understanding of the current conceptualisations of knowledge work, including the relation between knowledge and cultures. This enables you to recognise the flow of information and communication and to identify the influence of different cultures in organisations for knowledge management practices. You will learn to facilitate knowledge exchange and sharing between and among various stakeholders and employees with different levels of expertise, and different kinds of professional and cultural backgrounds and communicative needs.

English at the highest professional level
During the course of the MCO programme you will also develop excellent communication skills in English. You will acquire and manage knowledge within relevant professional areas e.g. the legal environment and financial reporting, and learn to reproduce this knowledge and communicate it in new contexts for different audiences. You will get hands-on experience working with management information such as annual reports and financial statements, and stakeholder communication in relations to mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures or outsourcing in order to include the new members to the organisation.

You will deal with, analyse and produce many kinds of texts that keep the international organisation together. Your communicative skills in English will furthermore be developed through hands-on experience with interaction, negotiation, discourse, persuasiveness, comprehension and production of complex argumentation and language, genre,and culture-related choices and strategies.

The profile aims at multicultural organizations with English as corporate language. Above all you will get a deep understanding of the connection between language, communication and organization.

The MCO programme enables you to contribute to the companys internal complex communication flows and accurately diagnose culturally or professionally conditioned needs for communication and knowledge sharing.

You will also have developed excellent communication skills and a strong command of English over the course of your studies. Based on an extensive knowledge within the field of organizational communication, you will be able to:

* Handle the internal communication in organizations
* Work strategically with languages and communication in relation to the general targets, structure and values of the organisation
* Identify, analyse and solve linguistic, communicative and cultural problems
* Ensure the highest possible standards for the English communication
* Work with different kinds of technological platforms in relations to knowledge production and sharing
* Analysing the current information structure in the company, define elements that could be optimized and perform the relevant changes
* Manage the internal complex professional communication flows of companies
* Diagnose culturally or professionally conditioned needs for communication and knowledge sharing and address those needs by providing and implementing theory-based solutions
* Perform communication analysis and produce written communication in English in various text genres at a high professional level
* Draw on a professional knowledge of the way organisational results and procedures are shaped and communicated, and of the relationships that are sustained by communication, both oral and written
* Work and network across cultures, displaying a profound understanding of cultural and professional diversity.

Structure
The MCO programme is a two-year masters programme that is divided into 4 semesters. The autumn semester runs from September through November with exams in December and January; and the spring semester from February through April with exams in May and June.

First and second semester consist of compulsory courses, third semester of elective courses and fourth semester finishes off the programme with the master thesis

Additional options
In your third semester you can opt for:

* Going abroad on exchange at a partner university
* Doing electives at CBS or another university
* Doing an internship in a company or organisation in Denmark or abroad

* Culture, identity and organization (15 ECTS)

* Strategic communication: exchanges, conflicts and agreements (15 ECTS)

2. Semester

* Knowledge work within and between organizations: Barriers and brokers (15 ECTS)

* Expert communication (15 ECTS)

3. Semester

* Electives at CBS and/or Internship and/or studies abroad at CBS partner universities (30 ECTS)

4. Semester

* Master's Thesis (30 ECTS)

You are guaranteed admission to this programme if you:A) fulfil the specific entry requirements, andB) fulfil the language requirement, andC) fulfil the general entry requirement of having an academic bachelor degree within the social sciences or within the humanities. Scholarship
CBS welcomes scholarship applications from graduate applicants, who come from countries outside of EU/EEA and need a student residence permit to study at CBS, regardless of gender, age, nationality and religion - we are interested in your motivation and your academic background.

Facts:

Each scholarship consists of a tuition fee waiver and a monthly scholarship of DKK 5,500 to cover living costs in Denmark (the equivalent of SU, the State Educational Grant given to Danish students). The grant is paid out in advance every month and has a maximum duration of 22 months, starting 1 September the year you are accepted. The grant is taxable in Denmark according to the rules and regulations governing income from grants and tax exemption for developing countries.

In 2012 CBS offered 25 scholarships.

Who:

You may be considered for a scholarship if you:

* are a non-EU/EEA citizen
* need a student residence permit to study at CBS
* apply online at Admission Flow by 1 February, 12 noon
* upload documentation and a motivational essay by 1 February, 12 noon

Students who receive a CBS scholarship may not receive a scholarship from their home country and are not entitled to SU (Danish State Educational Grant) or any other type of public support in Denmark.

To keep receiving the scholarship, recipients must be active students throughout the prescribed duration of their studies at CBS.

Procedure:

If you wish to be considered for a scholarship, you must apply for admission no later than 1 February 12 noon - no matter if you are a Group A or a Group B applicant at Admission Flow.

When you apply for admission you must indicate that you wish to be considered for a scholarship and you are to upload a motivational essay. A selection committee will make a recommendation to the CBS President, who will make the final decision as to which applicants will be offered a scholarship.

Applicants who are offered a scholarship will be notified of this by 1 March at the latest via Admission Flow. If you are offered a scholarship, you have until 15 March 12 noon to accept the scholarship.

Accreditation

Since 2000 CBS has been accredited by EQUIS, and since 2007 also by AMBA. August 1st 2011 CBS received accreditation by AACSB (Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business) as the first school in Scandinavia. CBS has thus acquired 'The Triple Crown', an acknowledgement only shared by around 50 business schools worldwide. These schools all belong the the absolute top business schools and include schools such as INSEAD, London Business School, IMD, and Rotterdam School of Management.
