This MSc full degree programme in Omics is offered in English only.

The Masters degree in Omics is a unique educational programme. The study of Omics concerns research in the post-genomic area of bioscience where data from public available databases are crucial in the designing of experiments and the interpretation of the attained data.

The Omics approach is based on a holistic view of research combining hypothesis based research with data and technology based research. Omics is an objective investigation which seeks to describe the full situation in the chosen biological system and is therefore in contrast with the traditional reductionistical view which is applied in biochemistry, molecular biology etc. Omics encompass several different approaches such as proteomics, transcriptomics, interatomics, and metabolomics. For instance, proteomics concerns the study of (potentially) all expressed proteins in a given biological system.

The Masters degree in Omicsis provided in close collaboration with SDU, AU, DTU, KU and also includes CAS (Chinese Academy of Sciences) and GUCAS (Graduate University of Chinese Academy of Science) in collaboration across the country boarders of China and Denmark, the Sino Danish Centre for Education and Research (SDC). Additional information about SDC and about being a student in China during an SDC-collaboration can be obtained through

Career opportunities
The Omics approach can be applied in a broad spectrum of companies:

* The biotechnology industry
* Companies within the area of medicine production (pharmaceutical companies)
* Production and processing of food and ingredients
* Hospitals
* Universities and research institutions

Typically, Graduates with a Masters degree in Omics will be able to find employment within the areas in the above-mentioned fields as Ph.D. students/research assistants, in core-facility departments as project managers, and within the food industry in the developmental and quality control departments, or as Ph.D. students and later on as assistant professors, associate professors, and professors.

Typical work tasks could encompass analysis of sequence data, mass spectrometry analysis, large scale DNA/RNA-sequencing, analytical biochemistry, quality control, product development, and furthermore research and developmental work related to Omics.

The Masters degree in Omics is outstanding. The course combination provides a unique combination of qualifications and thereby renders the graduate useful in all companies concerned with sequencing and the subsequent analysis of the obtained data. No existing programme provides a similar level of coherence and transversal qualifications in the area of Omics.

Active Danish and Chinese scientists will in unison conduct the lessons, and thereby Danish and Chinese scientists will be associated with the course programme.

The Masters degree programme has significant interdisciplinary content with a substantial contribution from Biochemistry/Molecular Biology, analytical biochemistry and computer science/IT.

Programme structure
A range of Bachelor degrees will supply the necessary knowledge within some, but not all, of the elements of the Omics programme.

The programme will therefore start with an individual Omics brush-up (4 ECTS) to ensure that you possess the needed knowledge. This module will be planned along with a lecturer to enhance the qualifications within selected areas.

The course Personalised Track (8 ECTS) also emphasizes a continuing individual guidance which seeks to ensure cohesiveness and expand knowledge and competences in relation to the courses of the programme.

PhD programme

If your desire and abilities suffice, you can choose to apply for a research degree. This can be either as a 3-year programme following the master's programme or as a 4-year programme beginning a year after the bachelor programme. The research programme leads to a PhD in science.

Admission to the Masters programme in Omics requires a completed Bachelors degree.The following Bachelors degrees qualify for the Masters programme in Omics: * Bachelors degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biologyfrom the University of Southern Denmark * Bachelors degree inBiochemistry and Molecular Biology/Chemistryfrom the University of Southern Denmark * Bachelors degree in Biomedicine from the University of Southern Denmark * Bachelors degree in Pharmacy from the University of Southern Denmark and University of Copenhagen * Bachelors degree in Biotechnology from the Technical University of Denmark * Bachelors degree in Technical Biomedicine from the Technical University of Denmark * Bachelors degree in Molecular Medicine from Aarhus University * Bachelors degree in Molecular Biology from Aarhus University * Bachelors degree in Biotechnology from Aarhus University * Bachelors degree in Biology from Aarhus University * Bachelors degree in Biochemistry from the University of Copenhagen * Bachelors degree in Biology and Biotechnology from the University of Copenhagen * Bachelors degree in Molecular Biomedicine from the University of Copenhagen * Bachelors degree in Food Science and Technology from the University of Copenhagen * Bachelors degree in Animal Science from the University of Copenhagen * Bachelors degree in Biology from a Chinese university * Bachelors degree in Pharmacy from a Chinese university * Bachelors degree in Agronomic Science from a Chinese university * Bachelors degree in Computer Science from a Chinese university, supplemented with additional individual evaluated knowledge within the area of molecular bioscience * Bachelors degree in Chemistry from a Chinese university, supplemented with additional individual evaluated knowledge within the area of molecular bioscience * Other Bachelor degrees within the area of Science and Health Science grounded on individual evaluationApplicants must be able to supply documentation of upper secondary/high school English consistent with a TOEFL test score of minimum 575/230/88, or a IELTS test score of minimum 6.5, or a CAE with a minimum of C, or CPE (CAE or CPE are only excepted from Cambridge Network or University of Michigan).In order to assess the professional and technical skills, motivation, expectations and as well as English skills, all applicants will be interviewed prior to admission. The board of the University of Southern Denmark decides from year to year which study programmes will benefit from the scholarships and the University will recommend the most qualified applicants in these programmes for a scholarship. Therefore it is not possible to apply for this scholarship. If you are a non-EU student and applying for a programme which offers this scholarship you will automatically be considered for it.

BHJ Scholarship
Only available for students applying for a master programme at our Sønderborg Campus

Six one-year scholarships are issued pr. year: three for studies within the technical field i.e. Mechatronics and Innovation & Business respectively, and three are for studies within the field of business administration i.e. Business Relationship Management.

A scholarship of DKK 40.000 may be granted if and when the requirements are met. It is paid in two instalments of DKK 20.000 per semester. The scholarship grant depends on acceptance and enrolment as a full-time student in one of the above mentioned programmes.
