The principal aim of the MSc programme in Pharmaceutical Science is to provide graduates with enhanced prospects for employability as discovery or development scientists in the pharmaceutical, healthcare or bioscience industries.

This Masters programme provides expert critical and technical knowledge related to the development, analysis and production of medicines, the drug industry and regulatory affairs. You will study recent trends in chemical, biological and biotechnological therapeutics and evaluate the latest technologies used in the pharmaceutical industry. You will also gain an understanding of the processes and methods used in clinical trials and the regulation of medicines.

You will acquire broad knowledge of contemporary, integrated drug discovery strategies and develop the skills to communicate effectively across the key, diverse component disciplines with other professional scientists and non-specialist audiences. You will develop the attributes necessary for successful careers in pharmaceutical science, undertaking lead research, development or management roles.

A specific aim is to enable you to communicate effectively in all forms of media across the key components in pharmaceutical science from initial concepts to pre-clinical and clinical development. You will also develop your knowledge of key skills.

Projects such as data collection, time management, organisational skills, review and synopsis, computing and statistical analysis. The programme further aims to equip you with versatile skills in the theoretical understanding, practical execution and critical evaluation of pharmaceutical science principles to underpin your professional careers. You will develop the practical skills and knowledge base to allow you to proceed to PhD level.

What's involved
The course is studied full-time over one year and is split up into three trimesters. Alternatively it can be studied by individualised part-time study with attendance. You can choose to start this course in either January or September. You'll learn by a variety of teaching methods including lectures, tutorials, laboratory sessions, and through independent study. There may also be some opportunities to study abroad.

* Research Skills - Molecular Analysis
* Biotechnology and Drug Discovery
* Drug Design and Chemotherapy
* Independent research project (which may be work- or industry-based)

The English language tests and scores we accept are: * IELTS 6.0 overall with no element below 5.5 * TOEFL IBT 80 or above with at least 17 in listening, 18 in reading, 20 in speaking and 17 in writing * Pearsons Test of Academic English 56 or above with at least a score of 51 in the listening, reading, writing and speaking components * Cambridge First Certificate in English (FCE) at grade C or aboveNormally an Honours degree based in the bio-molecular sciences; acceptable subjects: pharmacy; pharmacology, pharmaceutical or medicinal chemistry; biological or biomedical sciences; chemistry; immunology; biotechnology; genetics; virology; molecular biology; forensic science.Applicants with degree-equivalent qualifications will be considered, as will applicants without Honours degree equivalence but who have appropriate experience gained in the pharmaceutical or healthcare industries. You may choose between two start dates - January or September for admission to the full-time programme. English Language Requirements IELTS band: 6 TOEFL iBT® test: 80 IMPORTANT NOTE: Since April 2014 the ETS tests (including TOEFL and TOEIC) are no longer accepted for Tier 4 visa applications to the United Kingdom. The university might still accept these tests to admit you to the university, but if you require a Tier 4 visa to enter the UK and begin your degree programme, these tests will not be sufficient to obtain your Visa.
