Technical Module
Applicants should normally hold a relevant Level 3 qualification, such as A-levels or equivalent, with a focus on art, design, or technology subjects. Consideration is given to those with relevant portfolio evidence demonstrating creative ability and design experience. Alternatively, applicants with a background in engineering, product development, or related fields may also be considered, provided they can showcase their commitment to product design through prior work or projects. Prior formal education in design principles, CAD skills, and prototyping techniques can be advantageous but is not strictly mandatory if strong evidence of relevant skills and motivation is presented. International students must provide proof of English language proficiency, typically a minimum IELTS score of 6.0 overall, with no component less than 5.5, or equivalent qualifications. Work experience is not a formal requirement but can strengthen an application, especially if it demonstrates creativity, problem-solving skills, and a keen interest in product innovation. Applicants are encouraged to submit a comprehensive portfolio that showcases diverse design projects, sketches, models, and any relevant technical work. Personal statements should articulate the applicant's interest in industrial product design, their career ambitions, and how the program aligns with their aspirations. All applications are assessed on a holistic basis, considering academic achievements, portfolio quality, personal statement, and relevant experience. Interviews and portfolio reviews may be part of the selection process to evaluate practical skills and creative potential. A minimum of five GCSEs at grade C/4 or above, including English and mathematics, are required for UK applicants. Mature applicants without formal qualifications are considered on an individual basis, with evidence of their capabilities and commitment to the field. The program welcomes applications from a diverse range of backgrounds to foster a rich learning environment and innovative design thinking.
