Course Content

125 credits are required for graduation, with a minimum of the following:

1. Essential Studies (General Education) Requirements = 39 Credits*

2. Psychology Curriculum = 36 Credits

• Psyc 111 – Introduction to Psychology (3 credits - prerequisite to all other psychology courses)
• Psyc 120 – Orientation to the Major (1 credit)
• Psyc 241 – Introduction to Statistics (4 credits)
• Psyc 303 – Research Methods in Psychology (4 credits)
• Psyc 405 – History and Systems of Psychology (3 credits)

• 1 laboratory-based online course from the following:
  • Psyc 433 – Psychology of Learning (4 credits)
  • Psyc 434 – Motivation and Emotion (4 credits)
  • Psyc 435 – Physiological Psychology (4 credits)
  • Psyc 436 – Perception (4 credits)
  • Psyc 437 – Psychophysiology (4 credits)
  • Psyc 439 – Cognitive Psychology (4 credits)
• At least 3 additional credits in psychology at the 400-level, NOT including Psyc 405, 485, 489, 492, 493, or 494.
• Psychology Electives – a minimum of 14 credits

Level IV proficiency in Foreign Language (201 and 202 level classes) OR 8 additional credit hours of Arts and Humanities beyond those for other requirements.

5. Additional Requirements for a Bachelor of Science (BS)*

8 additional credit hours beyond those other requirements from anatomy, biology, chemistry, geology, mathematics, or physics departments and/or any classes from the Essential Studies (General Education) Area IV from following departments:

• anthropology
• atmospheric sciences
• geography
• honors
• nutrition and dietetics
• space studies

*To complete these degree requirements, you have 2 main options:

• Take semester-based OR open-enrollment, independent study courses from UND.
• Take courses from a regionally-accredited institution of higher education at a location near you. Prior to taking courses from another institution, you should check with your academic advisor to make sure the credits will transfer and apply to your degree program.

Of the 125 total credits needed to graduate from UND, you must complete:

• 60 credits from a 4-year, regionally-accredited college or university
• 36 credits at an upper-division level (300 or above)
• 30 credits from UND (includes online or correspondence by mail courses)

If you are seeking a career in psychology or other related fields, the online Bachelor of Arts (BA) or Bachelor of Science (BS) in Psychology degree is designed for you!

Regardless of where you live or your current profession, you may earn your bachelor’s degree from the University of North Dakota. The full or part-time psychology program is designed for working adults who are unable to attend traditional, on-campus classes.

The entire degree is offered online; you are NOT required to come to campus at any time.
