The Bachelor of Social Science degree is just a broadly established, inter-disciplinary three year program offering flexibility and choice in a selection of offerings from the social sciences. The level strives to equip all students with the school and specialist competencies and knowledge that a new graduate will need on entering the job or on proceeding to advanced study. Students are encouraged to select from more than one of the sciences, to allow for personal and occupational interests, and also prepare themselves to expand their studies at the very important and sub-major degrees. The majors and sub-majors comprise: Public and Child; Criminology and Criminal Justice; both Geography and Urban Studies; Development and Peace Studies; Sociology; Anthropology; Heritage and Tourism. Students are able to select eight elective units from around Western Sydney University subject to accessibility and Western Sydney University rules. The Bachelor of Social Science intends to expand understanding of this social world in three different ways: through social theory, social research and the utilization of these knowledge and ideas to practice through social participation. It offers an extensive base for understanding issues from the complex, culturally diverse and ever-changing social environment of the 21st century.
