Sport Psychology

Description

On this course you will complete modules delivered by both the Psychology and Sports Science departments. However your focus will be on how the two areas are related to each other and how the principles of each discipline are combined in the work of sport psychologists.
If you choose this course you will benefit from:

• The opportunity to join the Psychology Society. This is a group run by students in collaboration with staff. Events are largely social by nature but with an academic twist.
• The chance to undertake and support in applying for a year of work placement which would entitle you to the degree of ’ BSc Hons. with work placement’;
• There is also the option to take a year out of the degree to study abroad on the Erasmus programme.

Course Content

During the first two years of your course you will concentrate your studies on key areas of both psychology and sport science, including modules on sport psychology. Key topics include: biological psychology, social psychology, cognitive psychology, developmental psychology, individual differences, sport psychology and coaching.

You will also learn about psychological research methods and the statistical analyses that researchers in psychology use.

In your final year you will study advanced modules on sport psychology and coaching as well as a course on professional skills for psychology graduates and, of course, conduct your own independent research project study in sport psychology.

• 5 GCSEs at grade A*-C including English Language and Mathematics, or specified equivalents.

Access: The Access Diploma in a Science or Health subject to include 30 Level 3 credits at Distinction. Access applicants can meet the GCSE requirements through their current studies and do not need to have these qualifications separately.

Merit Scholarship Scheme

Merit Scholarship scheme: £1,000, in year one only and based on academic performance.

• Available to all international students applying for full-time undergraduate and postgraduate programmes at Coventry University.
• Scholarships are allocated on the basis of academic merit. (Postgraduate applicants must hold 2.1 or equivalent, undergraduate applicants must hold A-levels or equivalent at grades BBC)
• There is no separate scholarship application process: all undergraduate applications from self-funded international students from any non-EU country and postgraduate applications from international, will automatically be considered for a merit award. You will not have to do anything, if you are successful you will be notified in due course by the International Office.
