This Masters in Tourism, Heritage and Sustainability uses academic approaches from the social sciences and the arts to investigate key themes.

These include motivation, impacts, sustainable development, cultural and natural heritage, interpretation and management within this field. Students will analyse examples from around the world. The programme is deeply international in context and also offers case studies and fieldtrips in Scotland.

In the private sector there are heritage attractions, hotels, travel agencies and tour companies, consultancies and media organisations. Students may use this degree programme as a base from which to move into further research and study; and it will give transferable skills for a variety of graduate careers.

Structure

Four courses (3 core, 1 optional): two per-semester Dissertation (12,000 – 15, 000 words) or Project Report (8,000 – 10,000) taken in summer months. This is primarily an independent student-led experience, with regular supervisory tutorials to give guidance.

Teaching methods

Teaching will be provided through a mix of lectures, seminars, tutorials, UK field work classes, and project work. This will vary by course, although the majority will be lectures and seminars.
