A new 2-year master’s course program in the Department of Urban Management, Kyoto University has started in April 2011, that is, the International Course in Urban and Regional Development. All  lectures and research guidance are provided in English.

This course aims to cultivate human resources capable of managing civil infrastructures and addressing environmental issues in diverse countries, particularly in the developing countries of the Asian and African regions.

In addition to lecture-based subjects, the department also offers seminar-based subjects. In the seminar-based subjects, students independently plan and implement project surveys and company seminars. They then summarize the results and give presentations on their findings. These exercises greatly enhance students’ skills for preparing reports, presentations and conducting discussions. In addition, the exercises improve students’ abilities to work independently and boost their self-confidence.
