The two-year International Master's in Biological Science program offers practical and theoretical study of living organisms and how they interact with changing environments.

Knowledge of biological processes will help facing challenges concerning the effects of climate change and pollution on biological diversity and ecosystem services.

It will also help us to maintain the global food supply and improve human health and well-being.

Our study programme gives students direct experience with current biological methods, such as molecular methods for cloning genes, DNA sequencing for parentage analysis and genetic variation in wild populations, analysis of complex genomic and metabolic networks, physiological measurements in wild and captive organisms, captive breeding and artificial selection, field experiments on plants and animals in environments ranging from the arctic to the tropics, or theoretical modeling. Our research labs support cutting-edge instrumentation. Field work can be based at our field stations on the Norwegian coast and in the Dovre Mountains, or as far away as Tanzania and Svalbard. English is the main language of instruction in all our Master's courses. Master's projects are supervised by department faculty, but often involve co-supervisors from other research entities such as NTNU's Science Museum, NINA, or SINTEF.

Admission to the MSc programme in Biology requires a bachelor's degree (or an equivalent 3-year education) in Biology (minimum of 80 ECTS credits biology courses). In addition, applicants must have basic knowledge in chemistry, statistics and mathematics.Admission to the different specializations requires a bachelor's degree with courses relevant for the specialization in mind. For English languague requirements, please see http://www.ntnu.edu/studies/langcourses/languagerequirements
