The Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering program equips students with skills to solve even the most complex challenges in design, propulsion, and systems for aircraft and/or spacecraft. Programs in this field not only train students how to fly aircrafts such as planes and helicopters but also can teach them the skills for flight management and craft design. This gives students better preparation and the skills for coordinating flights, including teaching safety, analytics and navigation. These programs typically develop students’ ability to organize and plan aviation situations, as well as give them a better understanding of the designs of their crafts.
Students gain hands-on experience from the start, with opportunities to participate in various projects and competitions. The program offers the chance to learn real-world, on-the-job engineering principles practiced by global companies and government agencies, enabling students to build a professional network within their first year. Aerospace Engineering students attend classes in dynamic, engineering-related labs and facilities. Students frequently work with one-on-one with faculty on research projects and activities. Students benefit from the most modern, state-of-the-art resources available today — the same tools in use by aerospace engineering professionals around the globe.
Although every university program is slightly different, here are some of the core topics you’ll likely cover: Thermofluids, Introduction to aircraft design, Aerodynamics, Mechanics of flight, Engineering mathematics, Engineering materials, Aircraft systems and performance, Manufacturing, technology, and management. In such cases, BEng and MEng students take the same courses for the first two or three years, and suitably well-performing students then continue with the BEng for one more year or progress to the more advanced MEng for two years. Some institutions may also allow for this transfer in the first or second year of the BEng degree program while others allow post-secondary candidates to enroll in a MEng straight away. A few institutions also offer associate degree programs, but these usually are reserved for practicing engineering professionals who have already graduated in a related field, and want to change careers into aeronautical engineering.
General Requirments
Applicant needs to be highly competent in mathematics and physics in order to apply – expect your competency in these two subjects to be rigorously tested. And, if your degree is taught in English and you are an international student, you may need to prove your proficiency through a standardized exam such as the IELTS or take an English language course prior to commencing your degree in order to obtain a student visa or entry into the program.
Future Career
One such career path for someone is to become an aeronautical designer, who works to create new crafts and software used on flights. Aeronautical engineers, meanwhile, work to maintain and manufacture planes, helicopters and even spacecrafts. Another option is an aeronautical researcher, who learns and develops new technologies to better improve flight crafts. There also are a variety of other options available, which include aeronautical consultants and maintenance technicians, who help to find and solve problems on aircrafts.
