Migration Studies is an interdisciplinary field focused on the history, anthropology, sociology and economics of human migration. The programs are designed to provide students with the critical thinking and analytical skills that policymakers need to solve increasingly complex problems. International migration is one of the most urgent problems of the international community in the Twenty-First Century. The challenges faced by these international citizens are at the heart of this master program, which trains professionals to improve the lives of refugees and migrants around the world.
Today, 250 million people live outside their country of birth - 43 million in the United States alone. These migrants and their children are reshaping the social, cultural, economic and political life of their new host societies, while creating an unprecedented level of ethnic, racial and religious diversity in the countries of immigration around the world. Understanding the causes and effects of international migration is more important than ever. This interdisciplinary degree analyzes global migration and mobility with broader development and social transformation processes around the world. The course is taught by first-rate researchers and offers innovative theoretical, ethical and methodological perspectives on Migration from all social sciences. It provides the foundations for a successful career in government, international organizations, civil society or other academic studies.
In this accessible interdisciplinary program, students will explore how politics affects the migrant experience, and students will analyze the social, cultural, economic, and political consequences of international migration in the United States and beyond. Students have the opportunity to study with leading immigration specialists covering fields such as sociology, political science, English, history, anthropology, international relations, education and urbanism. These professors study migrants from all over the world, often from a comparative point of view, using methods ranging from advanced quantitative methods to deep ethnography of urban communities; the experience of immigrant children in schools; the creation of a new racial and gender identity; the consequences of resettling refugees in different types of communities; and in immigrant communities, immigrant communities and strengthening political power for them.
Here, students have exclusive access to organizations at the forefront of immigration work, services, research, politics and protection of interests. After this degree, students will be ready to work in various positions in political organizations, human rights and legal organizations, ethnic studies centers in schools and universities, as well as in public institutions and service departments.
