Creativity has always been the hallmark of Goldsmiths. Academic excellence and imaginative course content combine to make a place where creative minds can thrive and ideas are allowed to grow. We’re located in New Cross, just 10 minutes from the centre of London with some of the cheapest university accommodation on offer.
Our courses and research activities span the arts, humanities, social sciences, cultural studies, computing, business and management across 20 academic departments.
The QS World Rankings place us in the top five UK Universities for Art & Design and Communication & Media Studies. In 2014 the Research Excellence Framework rated us in the UK’s top 25 Universities for the quality of our research.
For more than 200 years, generations of students have received an education here on the site of Goldsmiths. The site used to be owned by the Royal Naval School until 1891 when it was acquired by the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths. In 1904, the Company gifted the Institute to the University of London on the condition that the buildings should always be used for educational purposes. On 29 September 1905, the new Goldsmiths’ College formally opened. In 1988 Goldsmiths became a full School of the University of London and in 2004 we celebrated 100 years as part of the University.
