  • Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences

    The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences specialises in communication, education and international studies. We have a strong practice orientation with a focus on technology, creativity and internationalism, supported and enhanced by academic expertise in communication and media; languages and culture; and teacher education.

    We have over 5000 students and 180 academic and professional support staff.   • Business School

    UTS Business School, part of the University of Technology, Sydney, delivers a broad range of degree programs at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and through its executive development programs. It is also recognised internationally for its innovative research.

    Its practical and integrative approach to business education prepares students for a world that demands more than specialist expertise in a particular discipline. Its graduates are ‘integrative thinkers’ who can combine traditional business skills with those from disciplines such as design and engineering to meet the challenges they face in a globalised world.

    UTS Business School consists of five academic disciplines: Accounting, Economics,Finance, Management and Marketing.   • Faculty of Design, Architecture and Building

    UTS: Faculty of Design, Architecture and Building is an innovative, vibrant faculty and an integral part of one of Australia’s leading universities of technology.     The Faculty is centrally located in Sydney’s creative industries precinct, within UTS’s newstate-of-the-art CBD campus.   • Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology

    UTS: Engineering and IT is an innovative and research intensive faculty with a strong reputation for its practice-based learning programs and industry engagement.

    Our goal is to produce impact-driven, user-centred research outcomes and to incorporate this into our students’ learning. We have a strong focus on collaborative research with the aim of improving individual lives and society as a whole, not just in Australia but around the globe.

  • Faculty of Health

    UTS: Health offers innovative, practice-based education and high impact research that focuses on improving health outcomes in both local and global communities. Established in 1986 at the former Kuring Gai College of Advanced Education, the Faculty of Health is a respected leader in a broad range of disciplines including Health Services Management, Midwifery, Nursing and Sport and Exercise. Our teaching and learning is centred on our unique Learning futures framework, which encourages an active learning approach and results in Graduate Attributes that are highly sought after by employers.A long-standing partner of health professions, UTS: Health engages in Health Services and Practice research that informs policy and improves practice both in Australia and overseas.

  • Faculty of Law

    Since its establishment in 1975, UTS:Law, like the university, has had a strong commitment to providing opportunities for learning for those who, because of employment or other constraints, are unable to follow a standard timetable. This continues to be important to us. Our undergraduate and postgraduate programs offer flexibility in timetabling and subject delivery.  

    We are also very proud of our achievements in research. UTS:Law research was recognised by the Australian Government’s Excellence in Research Australia 2015 exercise as ‘above world standard’. The research we conduct is innovative and seeks to have a real-world impact. Our curriculum also benefits from our academics, who integrate their expertise and current research into their teaching. At UTS:Law we believe that research must be conducted in a supportive and collaborative environment. We endeavour to give our faculty and students – undergraduate, postgraduate coursework, and doctoral – the opportunity to develop and flourish as researchers.  Our prestigious Quentin Bryce Law Doctoral Scholarships are also a sign of our commitment to encouraging the next generation of researchers.

    The School of Education is a leading provider of practice based learning in teacher education, language and literacy teaching, and for professional development in education. We integrate innovations in teaching and learning into the content of our all courses, as well as how we deliver them.

    With our global, practice-based learning model, UTS is a recognised leader in teaching and learning. Many of our lecturers are leaders in their areas of expertise, and many are active in professional practice. This means you’ll be exposed to the most relevant and up-to-date knowledge and skills in your field. The School is located on level 4 Building 10, UTS Broadway campus.

History

On 26 January 1988 — with the commencement of the University of Technology, Sydney, Act — the former New South Wales Institute of Technology became the University of Technology, Sydney.
The New South Wales Institute of Technology was established in 1964. The School of Design of the former Sydney College of the Arts was incorporated into the Institute on 25 January 1988.
On 1 January 1990, the Institute of Technical and Adult Teacher Education and the Kuring-gai College of Advanced Education were amalgamated with the existing University of Technology, Sydney to form the current UTS. On 1 August 2015, the comma was removed from the University’s title to become the current University of Technology Sydney.

The purpose and functions of UTS are outlined in the University of Technology Sydney Act 1989 (NSW) and in the constitutions of its controlled entities.

Student Life

The UTS Union is the organisation which runs a range of on-campus student services, including food & beverage outlets, cultural activities, student social events, and is responsible for overseeing UTS clubs & societies, sports clubs and other recreational activities. The UTS gym has recently been renovated. The City Campus is home to two licensed bars, 'The Underground' and 'The Loft'.

UTS has its own community radio station on campus, 2SER FM. The studio is located on Level 26 of the UTS Tower and broadcasts to the entire Sydney region. The station is jointly owned by UTS and Macquarie University, with a second studio at Macquarie University. UTS Journalism students help produce the station's news and current affairs programs including "The Wire" and "Razors Edge".

The UTS Students' Association is the representative student organisation at UTS. It publishes the student newspaper, Vertigo, runs the second hand bookshop, and advocates on behalf of students both individually and collectively.

Make friends and enjoy social activities through more than 150 CLUBS that cover a range of interests spanning sporting, cultural, political and religious-based groups and activities. There’s always something happening on campus - from free weekly breakfasts and barbecues, to bands, festivals and club activities. Participate in team sports competitions as diverse as netball, wheelchair basketball and badminton in our multi-purpose sports hall. Or work out in the fully-equipped UTS fitness centre, which offers great student rates.

Many of our lecturers are leaders in their areas of expertise, and many are active in professional practice. This means you’ll be exposed to the most relevant and up-to-date knowledge and skills in your field.

Our location

Within easy walking distance of Central Station and the Sydney CBD, our campus is easily accessible by bus and train. Close to cosmopolitan inner city suburbs such as Glebe, Surry Hills and Darling Harbour, our campus is surrounded by places to shop, eat and just hang out.

Flexible study options

Many of our courses are offered part time and with flexible timetabling options such as a choice between day and evening classes.

If you're already working, you don't have to put your career on hold. You can study part time, or you might want to alternate between full time study and work. You really can have the best of both worlds.
