The University of Applied Sciences Würzburg-Schweinfurt (FHWS) was established in 1971, with campuses in two locations in Würzburg and Schweinfurt. Today, the FHWS is one of the largest universities of applied sciences in Bavaria (southern Germany).
With its 10 faculties and more than 40 undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, as well as six research institutes, the FHWS offers a broad, practice- and future-oriented course programme.
Studying at FHWS is characterised by small study groups and a low student-teacher ratio. Through a great share of seminar papers, students learn to work independently. Additionally, project work promotes the students' team-working abilities. Almost 200 professors with solid professional experience from industry and business provide scientific education with special relevance to application and practice. Courses take place in modern lecture rooms and laboratories equipped with innovative technology and state-of-the-art appliances.
The university collaborates closely with regional and trans-regional businesses. Students benefit from this close collaboration by being able to do internships and having the possibility to write their Bachelor's theses in one of these companies. Moreover, they have the chance to build a network for their future career.
FHWS excels due to its international orientation. For more than 30 years, the university has welcomed students from over 60 countries. Worldwide, FHWS is associated with more than 150 universities.
The university location, Schweinfurt, is situated in one of the most beautiful regions of Germany. Franconia, in the northern part of the federal state Bavaria, offers high recreational value as a region of cultural and culinary delight. Due to its favourable geographic location, Schweinfurt is a perfect starting point to discover Germany and Europe. The international airports of Frankfurt am Main and Munich are within easy reach. Schweinfurt, with a population of 57,000, is well known for its metal industry. Apart from accommodation at favourable prices and a reasonable cost of living, the town offers students an attractive environment with high recreational value. Thanks to the wide range of industry operating in the area and cooperation between our university and industrial partners, students can find good opportunities for practical semesters and theses. Moreover, the region offers excellent job prospects.
To make your start in Germany as easy and enjoyable as possible, we offer an orientation programme. This one- or two-week programme is usually held prior to the start of the semester. The orientation programme provides you with all the essential information you need to study at FHWS. This includes, for example, a guided tour of the cities and of the university as well as handy tips for living in Germany. You will also meet other incoming students.
In addition, we offer a Buddy System, which is an ongoing support programme for all new international students. The aim of the Buddy System is to help new students to establish a social and an academic network.
