Critical thinking, creative processes and products are found within disciplinary boundaries but are just as often the outcome of cross-disciplinary interaction and stimulus. On this course students can negotiate a study pathway through selecting optional Masters level modules to suit their individual subject preference and career aspiration.

Special course features

All Masters level students undertake a generic module entitled Research Methods (20 credits). This underpins the three phases of the Masters study and provides the important environment of debate and engagement on cross-disciplinarity in the arts.

Facilities available

The course is taught by academic staff who are highly active in research at national and international levels. Our extensive and contemporary resources are all located in the Avenue Campus and include:

* High quality studios and workshop spaces including photography, digital technology, video, printmaking and sculpture
* Research centres including the Avenue Research Centre, the Centre for Contemporary Criticism and Narrative and the Centre for Practice-Led Research in The Arts

Typical modules

Postgraduate Certificate:

* ARTM002 Research Methods in The Arts (20 credits)

Plus an additional 40 credits of negotiated study.

Postgraduate Diploma - all of the above plus:

* ARTM0027 Independent Study in The Arts (20 credits) or
* ARTM0027 Arts and Health: Exploring the Myths (20 credits)

Plus an additional 40 credits of negotiated study.

Masters degree - all of the above plus:

ARTM003 Dissertation/research project (60 credits)

Applicants will normally have an honours degree with a first or upper second classification in a subject area appropriate to the route they wish to follow. Exceptionally, other candidates will be considered. Applications from overseas students, mature students and recent graduates are welcome.Applicants whose first language is not English may be required to demonstrate proficiency in written and spoken English. For some routes, applicants will be required to submit evidence through portfolio or documentation of a body of work, creative ability and theoretical engagement. English Language Requirements CAE score: (read more) Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE) is part of the Cambridge English suite and is targeted at a high level (IETLS 6.5-8.0).
