With climate change presenting the greatest global challenge of our time, the search is on for alternatives to fossil fuels. Bioenergy from wood, waste, agricultural residues and energy crops is a major global energy renewable source. However, there are challenges concerning technical performance, cost effectiveness, sustainable production, food security and biodiversity.

Our new Centre for Doctoral Training in Bioenergy, which has developed from our successful DTC in Low Carbon Technologies, aims to address these challenges.

Contents

Early after arrival and induction you will develop an individual personal development plan. This will help inform your module choices and the selection of skill/professional development activities you'd like to undertake.

Year 1 and 2: You will study 180 credits of taught material required for the MSc component of the integrated degree. PhD research begins during semester 3 in year 1.

Requirements

A degree equivalent to a UK upper second class honours (2:1), or higher, in engineering, chemistry, physics or mathematics.

Funding

There are 10 funded places available for 2015 entry.

This is fully funded, covering the cost of academic fees and a maintenance grant of £13,726 per annum. EU students will be eligible for a fees only award. Places are available for students who have their own funding.
