The degree of MTh shall not be awarded to candidates who fail to achieve a CAS mark of 9 or above in the dissertation, irrespective of their performance in other courses; such candidates may, at the discretion of the Examiners, be awarded a Postgraduate Diploma if they have achieved the appropriate number of credits for that award.

Candidates for all of our MTh degrees normally need an upper-second Honours degree in Divinity, Religious Studies or the equivalent. Applications will also be considered from candidates with an equivalent degree in History that includes a strong component of religious history. The English Language Requirement for all College of Arts and Social Sciences Masters programmes is an IELTS of 6.5 with 6.0 in the writing and reading (or equivalent TOEFL iBT or PTE). For more information see Good English is required not only for the student's own academic success but also because it is necessary to be able to contribute at seminars and perhaps conferences, as well as reading texts and writing essays or papers. English Language Requirements IELTS band: 6.5 IMPORTANT NOTE: Since April 2014 the ETS tests (including TOEFL and TOEIC) are no longer accepted for Tier 4 visa applications to the United Kingdom. The university might still accept these tests to admit you to the university, but if you require a Tier 4 visa to enter the UK and begin your degree programme, these tests will not be sufficient to obtain your Visa. The IELTS test is most widely accepted by universities and is also accepted for Tier 4 visas to the UK- learn more.
