Exceptional artistic input

The Division has well established relationships with professional choreographers and artists and draws upon this network to bring in the highest quality artists to work with you. Students participate in SHIFT Dance Company: Repertory and Performance, and work with professional choreographers to create a touring programme. Each year, SHIFT Dance Company commissions new works for touring by established choreographers. As a member of SHIFT, you will perform these works and create an education package to accompany your tour.

Units to enhance professional and specialist knowledge:

You are encouraged to develop a distinct and articulate approach to the professional roles of repertory performer, choreographer and teaching artist through the optional units, which enable you to explore how somatic practices and psychology, for example can inform and deepen your professional practice. Interdisciplinary thinking and trans-disciplinary collaborations characterise many contemporary professional practices in the arts and, as such, all Masters students in dance come together in the (Co-Lab): Interprofessional Working Project unit. You will work in partnership with course-peers, and with students from the MSc Dance Science and MA Community Dance Leadership programmes, to develop an innovative and in-depth research project addressing areas of shared interest. Typically this project will draw on the expertise of the different sectors involved, and reflect the scope and nature of creative partnership-working in the professional sector.
