If you're interested in a career in the fascinating and challenging world of drug design, this is the course that will take you there. Rather than presenting just one of the disciplines used in the field, this postgraduate degree, unique in Europe, blends the subjects you need - biomedicine and pharmaceutical science - into one comprehensive course that focuses on the integration of modern organo-medicinal chemistry and molecular biology.

Your learning will be based on modern drug design practices, as used in today's pharmaceutical industry. You'll study every step involved in developing and creating effective drugs, from concept to clinic, including the theories and practical applications of chemical drug design and immunology, toxicology, molecular biology and biotechnology. Involving discovery, innovation and application, this is a course that offers the potential of a rewarding and fulfilling career in research and development.

On graduation, you'll leave with the knowledge, understanding and practical experience you need to forge a career. You'll possess in-depth understanding of disease processes and molecular targets, and an ability to apply knowledge and theory to all aspects of drug design and biomedical science. Equipped with the ability to follow developments in the field, you'll learn to apply them to your work, and make innovative contributions to developments in the industry. Complex issues often arise in this field: you'll gain the ability to make informed judgements and effectively communicate those decisions.

On offer
You won't find this course at any other institution in Europe. A unique combination of the disciplines required, the course is your fastest and most effective route to a successful career in drug design. Our School of Life Sciences offers a thriving multidisciplinary environment in which ongoing active research in modern laboratory facilities promotes an atmosphere of innovation and exploration.

Normally, you will need an honours degree based in the bio-molecular sciences (acceptable are: biological or biomedical sciences; chemistry; pharmacy; pharmaceutical or medicinal chemistry; immunology; genetics; virology; molecular biology; forensic science.)Degree-equivalent qualifications will be considered, as will appropriate experience gained in the pharmaceutical or healthcare industries. All of our entry requirements are published on our course pages. Just search for a course that interests you then explore to find out more! If you're from outside the UK we also publish information about general entry requirements using the qualifications from your country. If your first language is not English you will usually have to take an English language test, unless you studied your undergraduate degree in a country where English is the official language.
