This class focuses on contemporary approaches to learning and teaching in primary and special education settings. Subjects centre on literacy and numeracy, an appreciation of diversity, an comprehension of modern education and handicap services, evidence-based decision making and reflective practice. Students study discipline-specific program, pedagogical studies, basic education studies, and professional experience. An attribute of this course is that the integration of discipline knowledge with the program and pedagogical knowledge required to instruct kids with additional learning and physiological needs. Students undertake supervised practicum in various educational settings including at least one setting which includes a focus on using communication and information technologies to promote learning. Professional experience includes a focus on working with kids with a range of disabling states across various schooling settings.

This program is accredited by the Victorian Institute of Teaching and the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL).

  • Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) Components 3 and 4: a study score of at least 30 in English (EAL) or at the very least 25 in English other than EAL
  • Components 3 and 4: a study score of 20 in any Mathematics.
