The MBS (Electronic Commerce) is an innovative postgraduate programme that combines business management, technological skills and a graduate professional experience programme. Participants develop a comprehensive portfolio of business and analytical skills and also develop extensive technical expertise. The opportunity to observe the practical applications of these skills and knowledge is provided in the second year through the graduate professional experience programme.

The aim of the programme is to equip students with the range of technical and business skills needed to implement and manage e-commerce solutions in a business environment. Students gain practical knowledge of business systems analysis and design; project management; database design; applications development; internet and multimedia development; and business policy. Specialised aspects are also covered, including: human-computer interaction, information systems security, business analytics and decision support systems, electronic commerce strategy and IS innovation.

The course is a full-time degree which commences in September and continues for two academic years. In Year 1 of the programme students take six courses each semester. Students are assessed at the end of each semester in Year 1, either by exam, continuous assessment or a combination of both.

The second year of the MBS provides the opportunity for students to apply the skills they have acquired in Year One by working for companies such as Microsoft and Ericsson. The Graduate Experience Programme (GEP) is a work placement opportunity during which students work on e-commerce and information systems related projects.
