A programme organised by the Institute for European Studies in collaboration with the Faculty of economic, social & political sciences, Vrije Universiteit Brussel and Solvay Business School.

Now in its 12th year, the EuroMaster provides students with an advanced academic, theory-based understanding of the policies, the institutions and the socio-economic processes in the European Union.

The EuroMaster is an interdisciplinary programme taught in English geared towards an international range professionals as well as advanced students. It provides students with advanced academic training across a wide range of EU policies and concepts in order to gain a thorough understanding of the process of European integration in both its economic and political dimensions. The Programme operates as a ‘Master after Master’, requiring students to have strong and consistent marks across a minimum of 4 years of study.

The programme is particularly oriented towards providing an academic, theory-based understanding of the policies, the institutions and the socio-economic processes in the European Union. The presentation of factual and practical knowledge on EU institutions and policies is important but does not constitute the essence of the programme. The programme emphasises the importance of theoretical and conceptual tools to interpret and analyse aspects of European integration. The programme offers detailed analysis on the EU, its institutions and its working practices, all of which are presented within a clear scientific framework. The programme does not aim to provide a vocational training.

For whom?

The EuroMaster is geared towards an international range of young and mid-level professionals as well as advanced students from across the political sciences. For this purpose the Euromaster classes are organised after working hours to enable both full-time students and professionals to attend the lectures.

Our location in Brussels

Our location in Brussels, the 'Capital of Europe', offers exceptional opportunities for networking and contact with EU decision-makers.The composition of the faculty is a balanced mix of high level European officials and other policy makers (all of them have also a research background and a PhD.) as well as VUB/IES staff specialising in European issues. Students can benefit from the support and expertise of the faculty staff and from the research activities at the IES.

Scope and Goals

The one year 60 ECTS Advanced Master's programme has two 'specialisation streams':

  • European Political and Social Integration (EPSI)
  • European Economic Integration (EEI)

It offers students an education of the highest academic standards on the European unification process. The Master is designed to provide graduate students of different backgrounds with an expert knowledge on European legislation, European institutions and the economic integration process.

Furthermore, those with professional backgrounds and experience in national administrations, European institutions, etc. will find the programme challenging and rewarding. A multidisciplinary approach ensures insight from economics, law, political sciences, and sociology. A maximum of 30 students will be admitted in each of the two specialisations in order to assure high quality interactive teaching.
